Pacific Peak 13, 950’

West Ridge                                 Class 4                               February 2011

After a long assignment in Dallas and the birth of my son in January I finally found a day to get outside again. The usual suspects were along, Jim and EJ, along with a couple of out-of-towners, Rick and Heath. We set our sites on the challenging west Ridge of Pacific peak.

We got an early start and made steady time to the ridge. The temps were in low teens but we faced very little wind which made traveling relatively easy. When we arrived at the base of the ridge we stowed our snowshoes and began up the ridge. About 500’ up the ridge EJ and I had enough fun for one day and elected to turn around. The conditions were less than ideal. In my estimation to continue would have ended in an epic. We convinced the others to our way of thinking and made quick progress to the trailhead. From there it was to Beau Jo’s for pizza and beer (not  total loss).
