Little Bear - Blanca Traverse
Little Bear - Blanca Traverse
After focusing on rock for the past month EJ and I headed to the Blanca Massif to try the doubly exposed traverse between Little Bear Peak and Blanca Peak. With perfect weather we made great time to the summit of Little Bear via the West Ridge. After a short rest on the summit we dropped off the summit and worked our way along the knife-edged ridge. Along the traverse we found a lot of Class 3 and Class 4 climbing. EJ and I didn’t feel like there was more then 2 or 3 Class 5 moves, which was a relief. We made the traverse in 2:40 and felt that if we climb this route again we could cut at least 30 minutes off our time. After reaching the summit of Blanca we rested and rehydrated for 20 minutes and headed back to camp. From camp we made the death march back to the Jeep and the long drive back to Denver. This is one of my all time favorite days in the mountains!
