Cotopaxi 19,347’
Cotopaxi 19,347’
After years of climbing Colorado’s 14ers EJ and I decided to give a higher altitude a shot. We settled on Cotopaxi in Ecuador. We elected to hire Moggley Climbing for transportation and guiding while on the mountain. Moggley was a top notch guide service and we spent 2 days in a glacier travel class to acclimate at the foot of Cotopaxi. The morning before we were to climb the mountain got 18” of powder which made for tough climbing. I never felt good when we slept at 15,500’ and didn’t make the summit due to a touch of altitude sickness. EJ did make it however so our mini expedition was a success. We spent a coupe of night in Quito and saw some of the sights. We both would have liked to spend more time there but all we could spare was a week. I hope to go back someday to climb Cotopaxi and Chimborazo.
