Big Thompson Ice
Big Thompson Ice
Jim and I took a short trip up the Big Thompson Canyon to check on the condition of a small ice flow. To cross the river we had to balance on fallen trees as the river isn’t completely frozen over yet. The “trail” that winds up the hill is choked with fresh down fall which made for tough travel. Once we got to the flow we were disappointed. The usually dependable flow was barely climbable and very wet. In a couple of weeks it should be in good shape but for now the climbing isn’t worth the hike. Jim and I did four passes on the climbable sections of the flow and called it a day.
